$9.5M for Spring Valley!

Yesterday, Governor Quinn came to town to announce that the city of Spring Valley will receive a $9.5 million grant to help repair the city’s wastewater treatment plant that was damaged by the April flood.

Special thanks to the efforts from State Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley), State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) who helped make this happen for Spring Valley.

“The results of their efforts will provide a new wastewater treatment plant that will be constructed to safeguard the facility from future flooding and be designed to service our city for many years to come,” Marini said.

Meeting with Congressman Adam Kinzinger

We had the pleasure of a visit from United States Congressman Adam Kinzinger stopping by Spring Valley on July 3rd along with his aid Greg Ridenour.

He was here to tour the city wastewater treatment plant with me and our staff. He promised to help the city apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance for the recent flooding at the plant.

I thank him for his assistance and look forward to working with him on this important issue for Spring Valley.

Mayor Walt Marini's Remarks - Swearing In - 2013

"I would like to thank the voters of the Third Ward for allowing me the privilege of representing them for the last 12 years and all of the voters of Spring Valley for giving me the honor of being able to serve them for the next 4 years. I look forward to working together with the Council and everyone to make Spring Valley even better.

I would especially like to thank my family and our friends for their help and in particular, I want to thank my wife, Mary Jane, for all she has done. I believe this was an indication of what people working together can accomplish. News-Tribune: Spring Valley Voters' Changes Are Now in Effect

Last night's meeting - where Walt Marini was sworn in - was attended by many from around Spring Valley. They were there to celebrate the new changes, but also - importantly - honor the service of those who have come before at City Hall.  The News-Tribune was there to chronicle the transition.
Spring Valley City Council saw a few changes at Monday’s meeting with the swearing in of three new aldermen and a new mayor along with two new city appointees.
A crowd of people came to the meeting to support departing candidates and welcome new ones. Outgoing mayor Cliff Banks said his final thanks to the people of Spring Valley, but said he was leaving it in good hands.

“We got a good man who’s in charge,” said Banks and added to new mayor Walt Marini, “I know you’ll do a good job.”
...Marini thanked the voters of the third ward for allowing him to be alderman the past 12 years and all the voters for giving him the next four years as mayor. He also thanked his friends and family and said he looked forward to working with the council and people of Spring Valley.“I believe this is an indication of what people can accomplish working together,” said Marini about his successful campaign.
Marini’s first act as mayor was to honor outgoing city officials with plaques for their years of service. Banks was recognized for his service as mayor 2009-13 along with Fusinatto for serving the fourth ward 2001-2013 and Richetta for serving 2009-13 in the first ward.
Thanks to outgoing Mayor Cliff Banks and Alderman Mike Richetta and Alderman Rick Fusinatto for their service to our community!
